Its 10:30 at night....lets get started.First off,we start with the NFC Championship where the Chicago Bears absolutely destroyed the New Orleans Saints 39-14 in a HUGE blowout.Chicago jumped up to a 16-0 lead in the 2nd Quarter but the Saints pulled within 2.However,Chicago ended the game scoring 23 unanswered to win the game and advance to their 2nd Superbowl(and first since Superbowl XX).In the AFC Championship the Colts fell behind 21-3 in the 2nd Quarter and tied it at 21 in the 3rd Quarter. But at the end the Colts rallied to win 38-34 to advance to only its third superbowl in 38 years.
Lets preview this game for a bit with some history to both squads. Both Chicago and Indianapolis were part of the Original NFL(the now current NFC)from 1953-1970 meeting twice a year.In their first meeting in Baltimore the Colts won 13-9.The last time they met was in 2004 where the Colts won 41-10 in Chicago.Currently,Indy leads the all-time series 22-17.For the Bears its their 2nd Superbowl appearence. There first(and only prior to today)was in Superbowl XX where they defeated the Patriots 46-10.As for Indy, they made two appearences in the first 5 Superbowls.
In Superbowl III the Colts lost the Joe Namath's New York Jets 16-7 in a major upset. There second appearence was in Superbowl V where the Colts beat the Cowboys 16-13 in what was known as the "Blooper Bowl" for its 11 turnovers and poorly timed plays. Now moving onto College Basketball where several big games were played this week.Starting with Tuesday where #14 Oklahoma State beat the 23rd rank Texas Longhorns 105-103 in triple overtime in the best College Basketball game I've seen all year.On Wednesday the Tar Heels of North Carolina destroyed Clemson 77-55.On Saturday the Bruins of UCLA beat Arizona 73-69 in a close battle between two Pac 10 powers and Texas A&M destroyed Oklahoma State 67-49 in a battle between two Top 15 teams.
In the NBA this week the Wizards beat the Jazz on a last second 3 pointer 108-105 courtesy of Gilbert Arenas.Along with that game on Monday the Lakers beat the Heat 124-118 in Overtime in the never-ending Shaq and D-Wade vs Kobe fued.A little more happened with L.A. this week as they defeated the Spurs 100-96 on Wednesday but was blown out by the Mavs 114-95 the next day and earlier today the Mavs defeated the Heat 99-93 in the NBA Finals rematch. To show how short this blog is this week lets head to the Weekly Awards.
Game of the Week:Colts vs Patriots
MVP of the Week:Gilbert Arenas
Team of the Week:Phoenix Suns
Finally,I recommend that this week you watch Texas A&M vs Texas Tech which will be on Wednesday Night because if Tech can beat Kansas at home they can do it again Wednesday at home too.If you can't find the game(ESPN doesn't have it listed nor is it on any other channel)than I also recommend Spurs against Lakers on Sunday 3:30 on ABC.
See you next week the REAL Superbowl preview.
