Virginia Tech Shootings

When you're young you think that nothing could ever happen to you, and as you grow older and into your teens you keep that mindset. In reality anything can happen as documented by 9/11 and Columbine(more on that later). On April 20, 1999 no one expected school to go the way it did. Rachel Scott did not expect to to be killed by a classmate, neither did Cassie Bernall or John Tomlin. By the end of the day 13 people were dead with twelve under the age of 18. Today 33 people died in a place that Football coach Frank Beamer described as a friendly environment.
What I am saying is, "What kind of world is this?". What kind of world is it where you have to keep your eyes open all the time in risk of getting killed by a man with a gun? What kind of world is it when you can't even go to school? Counting today's and the Columbine shootings their have been a total of 10 school shootings in this country since the very day I started school in August 1996. There has been 3 in the past year alone and 12 since April 22, 1991(The day I was born).
What kind of world is it that a man can just get a gun easily and kill people with no problem? What causes people to do this? Who is the man responsible for this? What caused this man to go into the school and kill people the way he did? Was it something someone said? Was it something that happened? Was it that no one was listening to him or even asking to help?
Either way there is no excuse for what he did. Because of him many young people are dead tonight and the lives of the friends and family that cared for these people are damaged all because of him. I don't know what to say anymore, when you hear about a school shooting, any school shooting especially with the death toll as large as this one you just don't know what to do or even say. I don't even feel safe anymore you hear about this stuff and it makes you wonder, "What kind of world do we live in"
I am not trying to scare anyone, only trying to say something with the way this generation has turned out how can we know we are safe when things like these are occuring seemingly everyday. On one final note my thoughts and prayers are dedicated tonight for the families and friends of the victims. The 8th anniversary of Columbine is Friday and it just seems that with the way people are these days that we are living in a world where danger is at every turn on the road and anything can happen.
